Troubleshooting

Sign-in problems, missing emails, the planner not loading, and what to send us.

I did not get the verification or reset email

Check spam first. Then check you used the address you actually signed up with - a typo in an email address is the most common cause. Resetting again sends a new link and invalidates the old one. If nothing arrives after a few minutes, email support@buildsideways.com from the address you are trying to use and we will sort it manually.

I cannot sign in

Passwords are case-sensitive. If a reset email is not arriving, see above. Repeated failed attempts are rate limited, so wait a few minutes before trying again - that is deliberate and it protects your account.

The planner will not load

The planner needs JavaScript. Everything else on the site - chassis pages, plans, guides, the blog - works without it. If JavaScript is on and it still will not load, try a reload, then check /status/ to see whether something is actually down.

My build disappeared

If you were not signed in, the build lives in your browser's local storage - clearing site data, using private browsing, or switching browser or device will lose it. Saving to an account is the only way to get a build onto another device.

A price or a fitment claim looks wrong

Please tell us. For prices, a link to a current listing is the most useful thing you can send. For fitment, tell us the chassis, the part and what actually happened - we will correct it or downgrade its confidence level.

A warning fired that I think is wrong

Tell us, and include the chassis, the goal, and which parts you had selected. The rules evaluate against the contents of the build rather than the chassis, so a warning that looks wrong in isolation is sometimes correct in combination - but sometimes it is genuinely a bad rule, and we would rather fix it than have you ignore warnings generally.

The totals do not look right

Check whether anything is marked owned - owned slots stay visible in the plan so the order still reads correctly, but they contribute nothing to the total, which can make a plan look cheaper than you expected. Also check the goal level, because changing it changes which slots are required.

Consumables are deliberately not in the parts total. They are shown separately, per event and per season, because they are recurring rather than a purchase.

A page loaded without styling

Usually a transient network failure on the stylesheet. Reload. If it persists, your network or an extension may be blocking it - the site loads one stylesheet from its own domain and one webfont from Google Fonts, and it is designed to remain readable with the font blocked.

Something is broken and the status page says it is fine

That gap is itself a bug. Email support@buildsideways.com with what you were doing, what you expected and what happened, plus your browser and whether you were signed in.
