Prices, fitment and confidence levels

Why prices are ranges, what the confidence labels mean, and how to report something wrong.

Prices are market ranges, not live quotes

Every part shows a price range and the date it was checked. We have no affiliate product feed and no pricing API, so a range you can trust is more honest than a precise number we would have to invent. Retailer links say "check price at X" and take you to the retailer for the real figure.

If a price has moved, that is expected. If a range is simply wrong, tell us and we will re-check it and update the date.

Confidence levels

Every compatibility rule and every part carries one of three labels:

  • Verified - we or a cited source confirmed this on this specific chassis. The source is on the page.
  • Community-reported - owners-group or forum consensus, linked. Widely held, not independently confirmed.
  • General principle - true in general from physics or common practice. Measure your own car.

We do not guarantee fitment

And we never will. Fitment errors drive the large majority of performance-parts returns, usually because of regional variants, mid-year production changes, or a part that fits a standard car but not a modified one. Confirm fitment with the retailer and measure your own car before you buy.

Why we do not show a single price

Because it would be false precision. The same coilover is a different price at four retailers, in two currencies, with freight that varies by continent - and a large share of drift parts are bought used from the community, where the price depends on who is selling. A range that contains the real number is more useful than a point estimate that does not.

Why the retailer links are not deep product links

Guessing a product URL produces a 404, and a dead link is worse than an honest one. Until we have affiliate product feeds, every link goes to the retailer with an accurate label - "check price at X" - rather than pretending to know which page the part is on.

How often the catalogue is checked

Every part carries the date it was last checked, which is the honest answer rather than a promised cadence we might miss. If a date looks old to you, it is old, and a note from you is the fastest way to get it re-checked.

Reporting something wrong

A wrong fitment claim is the most useful thing you can report. Tell us the chassis, the part and what actually happened at support@buildsideways.com or through the contact form. We will either correct it or downgrade its confidence level, and we will tell you which.
