Terms of service

What you can expect from us, and what we need from you.

Last updated 2026-10-07.

By using BuildSideways you agree to these terms. If you do not, do not use it - there is nothing you have to sign and nothing you lose.

What this service is

BuildSideways is a planning tool. It produces a suggested order, suggested parts and estimated costs for modifying a car, based on a curated catalogue and published sources. It is information, and you are the one making the decisions.

What it is not

It is not a fitment guarantee. We say this everywhere and we mean it here too. Every compatibility warning carries a confidence level, and "general principle" means exactly that. Vehicles vary by market, by model year and by what a previous owner did to them. Verify fitment with the retailer and measure your own car before you buy anything.

It is not safety certification or engineering advice. Roll cages, seats, harnesses, fire systems and anything structural must meet your event organiser's rulebook and your local law, and must be fitted competently. Certifications expire on paper. Your series' rulebook is the authority, not us.

It is not a guarantee of price. Prices are market ranges with the date they were checked. They move.

It is not a retailer. We do not sell parts, hold stock, take orders or handle returns. When you click through to a retailer, your purchase is between you and them under their terms.

Your responsibility

Modifying and driving a car is dangerous, and motorsport is more so. You are responsible for the work you do, for the parts you buy, for the car's roadworthiness, and for complying with the law and with your event's rules. If you are not competent to do a job, get someone who is - particularly brakes, steering, fuel and anything structural.

Accounts

One person per account. Keep your password to yourself. Tell us if you think someone else has got into your account. You must be at least 16.

Acceptable use

Do not: scrape the catalogue in bulk, resell or redistribute it as your own, attack the service, try to reach other people's private builds, upload anything illegal or anything you do not have the rights to, or use the service to mislead someone about a car you are selling.

Your content

Builds you create are yours. By making a build public you give us permission to display it on this site and to let other users fork it, which is the point of making it public. You can make it private or delete it at any time. We may remove content that breaks these terms.

Subscriptions

Free is free and stays free. Pro and Shop are billed in advance, monthly or annually, through Stripe. Trials are 14 days with no card. You can cancel any time from the billing page and keep access until the end of the period you have paid for. Prices can change, but not for a period you have already paid for, and we will email you before a change takes effect. See the refund policy.

Availability

We will try to keep it up and we publish real health checks at /status/. We do not promise an uptime figure, because a one-person service promising four nines would be a lie.

Liability

To the maximum extent the law allows: the service is provided as is, without warranties. We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, for damage to a vehicle, for injury, or for money you spent on parts. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to what you have paid us in the last twelve months - which for most people is zero. Nothing here limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud, where the law does not allow it.

Ending it

You can stop and delete your account whenever you like. We can suspend an account that breaks these terms, and we will tell you why.

Law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, United States, and disputes go to the courts there - except where your local consumer law gives you the right to use your own courts, in which case it does.
