BuildSideways vs TunerLab

An honest comparison, with everything dated. We are obviously not neutral - so every claim below is sourced, and there is a section on what TunerLab does better than us.

What TunerLab is

An AI build planner for general car modification - "Plan Smarter Builds for Your Exact Car" - with stage-by-stage planning, install sequencing, HP and torque estimates with confidence ranges, exportable PDF build sheets and a garage.

Pricing as of 2026-10-06: A free tier exists. A Pro tier is linked but, as of 2026-10-06, no price is published on the page. Pro is described as adding unlimited AI build plans and saved garages with build tracking.

What TunerLab does better

This section exists because a comparison page without one is marketing.

  • It covers general tuning, not just drift. If you are building a circuit car, a drag car or a street build, we are the wrong tool and it is the right one.
  • It gives horsepower and torque estimates with confidence ranges, which we deliberately do not attempt.
  • Its stage roadmap and ordered install sequence are closest in spirit to what we do, and it got there first.
  • PDF build sheet export is on its free-to-Pro path; ours is a Pro feature.

Where we differ

  • We are drift-specific. Every phase, slot, warning and chassis note here exists because of what drifting does to a car, not what modification generally does.
  • We publish our price. TunerLab’s Pro price was not published on its page as of 2026-10-06, which makes it impossible to compare on cost.
  • We publish our chassis list. TunerLab does not specify which platforms it supports.
  • We link retailers, so the plan ends somewhere you can act on. We found no retailer links on TunerLab, which means it tells you what to buy and then stops.
  • We budget consumables and generate a pre-event checklist from your build.
  • Our catalogue is cited and dated rather than generated.

Questions

What does TunerLab Pro cost?

As of 2026-10-06 the price was not published on the page - a Pro link existed but no figure. We cannot compare on cost for that reason, which is itself part of why we publish ours.

Which should I use for a non-drift build?

TunerLab, or something like it. We are drift-specific on purpose: our phases, warnings and chassis notes are all about what drifting does to a car, and they would be the wrong advice for a circuit or drag build.

Why do you not estimate horsepower?

Because a drift build is not a horsepower problem, and an estimate we cannot verify would be a number we had invented. The grassroots field mostly runs 200 to 350 hp; what separates drivers at that level is angle, grip, consistency and seat time.

Try ours without paying

The full plan is free, there is no login, and nothing is held back. That is the easiest way to decide.
