What to check before buying a JZX110

3 checks, in the order to do them, with what each problem costs to put right if you find it. Asking prices were $12,000–$28,000 when we checked on 2026-10-06.

Walk away

If you find any of these, the car is not cheap, whatever the price is. Structural problems at a suspension or subframe mounting point get worse on a locked-diff car.

  • Engine code on the block and transmission type A 1JZ-GTE iR-V manual is the car. An FSE auto is not. $3,000–$8,000
  • Verify import paperwork and eligibility This generation is only partially eligible under the 25-year rule. Check the specific build date. $0–$28,000

Negotiate, then budget for it

Not dealbreakers, but each one is money you will spend in phase 0 whether you planned to or not.

  • Rust at arches, sills, strut towers and rear subframe Japanese import stream, snow-region cars common. $1,000–$6,000

The right-hand column is what the fix costs, as a range. Solid rows are the ones that should stop you; dotted rows are negotiating points.

Why this chassis goes wrong where it does

Weight, again verified

Heavier than the JZX100, which was already heavy. Specify everything for the real weight and budget the highest consumables figure on the list.

Thinner parts catalogue than the JZX100 community

Fewer imported, less community knowledge, narrower angle-kit selection. Expect longer waits and more of your own measuring.

FSE direct-injection engines are a trap community

The naturally aspirated FSE engines are cheap for a reason and are a poor base. Confirm the engine code on the block, not the badge.

Steering side, imports and paperwork

Right-hand drive, Japan-market only, and the newest of the JZX generations - which means most model years are still ageing into US 25-year eligibility. Check the build date carefully. Body and interior parts are Japan-only and harder to find than the JZX100's.

This matters more than it sounds. Industry reporting on parts returns names regional variants and mid-year production changes as a leading cause of wrong-fitment orders, and steering racks, knuckles, angle kits, master cylinders and pedal boxes are frequently not interchangeable between left and right hand drive.

Bought one? Start here

Phase 0 is the chassis inspection you just did, plus fluids, cooling, brakes, bushings and steering wear. It is the cheapest phase and the one that protects everything after it.
